Note to celebrities around the world… and, really, every user of social media around the globe:
You don’t need to post any recognition of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on that tragic event’s anniversary every year.
Really. No one is gonna accuse you of beng anti-American if you let the occasion go by without acknowledging it happened on Twitter or Instagram. Just trust us on that.
We say this in light of Farrah Abraham making a fool of herself while recording a video at the sight of the Twin Towers in New York City.
And now we also say it in the wake of Kristin Cavallari doing the exact same thing while spending time in The Big Apple this week.
The 32-year old reality star came under extreme fire yesterday after she shared the following photo online, one in which she is posing in a rather revealing ensemble.
Moreover, the inappropriate outfit was accompanied by a caption that read as follows:
NYC for 24hrs. And what a time to be here..always remember.
Following the near-immediate backlash to this oddly enthusiastic post (considering the horrific event Cavallari was attempting to honor), the MTV personality axed the second part of that caption.
If you go to her official Instagram page right now, it simply reads:
NYC for 24hrs.
An insider also confirms to Page Six that Cavallari has fired a member of her social media team as a result of this debacle, blaming the individual for the wildly insensitive caption.
Which, on one hand, we totally understand.
Just consider some of the comments she received in response to this post:
“Wrong picture for the sentiment in the post.”
“This is super insensitive.”
“I love you and think that you are generally spot on in the things that you choose to present, but this is just disrespectful and undermining to the magnitude of the events that occurred on that horrific day.”
“Let me show off my body and then make a half ass remark about 911. WTF.”
“Sorry…did you want us not to forget about the dress or the significance of September 11th?
On the other hand, however, does scapegoating some poor social media coordinator really make Cavallari look better?
She’s either admitting in this process that someone else comes up with very basic caption for her photos…
… or she’s flat-out lying and placing the blame for this mistake on someone else.
Both are pretty bad looks.
Cavallari rose to fame as a cast member on MTV’s Laguna Beach way back in 2004.
She then joined the cast of The Hills in 2009 and also appeared on Season 13 of Dancing with the Stars.
An attempt at an acting career landed her on one episodes of Veronica Mars, and she also went on to guest on semi-decent shows such as CSI: NY, Cane, and Adventures in Hollyhood.
She’s married to former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, who never really fulfillde his promise during stints in Denver and Chicago.
They have three children together.
