1 in custody after shots fired at Chicago cops in Fernwood

Officers did not return fire, and a weapon was recovered, Chicago police spokesman Tom Ahern said.

A person was taken into custody after allegedly firing shots at Chicago police Saturday in Fernwood on the South Side.

Just after 10 p.m., officers were in the 10400 block of South Union Avenue when gunfire erupted, Chicago police spokesman Tom Ahern said.

Officers did not return fire, and a suspect was taken into custody, Ahern said. A weapon was also recovered.

No injuries were reported.

Area Two detectives are investigating.
