Brush fire in Cajon Pass threatening neighborhoods

A car fire on the northbound 15 Freeway in the Cajon Pass spread to the brush on Tuesday, May 4, with the flames placing homes in jeopardy.

Structures were threatened in the Devore Heights, Hall Ranch and Matthew Ranch areas, the San Bernardino National Forest said at about 1:30 p.m., though no evacuations have been announced.

The Devore fire stood at 20 acres with a moderate rate of spread and 0% containment, forest officials said in a Twitter message.

The three right northbound lanes of the freeway were closed for the firefighting operation.

The California Highway Patrol received a report of a recreational vehicle on fire on the right shoulder between Kenwood Drive and Cleghorn Road. The flames spread to the brush a few minutes later. A CHP officer later requested tow trucks for a “melted RV and an almost melted Ford Ranger,” according to the CHP log.
