The evacuation area for the Alisal Fire, in Santa Barbara County, was expanded Wednesday evening.
The new mandatory evacuations include Gaviota, Gaviota Beach and Las Cruces. The orders imposed Monday to the east remain in effect.
The fire, which started Monday near Alisal Lake, was estimated at 15,442 acres (24 square miles) on Wednesday evening, said the report from Los Padres National Forest fire managers. The approximate perimeter is shown in gray on the map above.
The mandatory evacuation area, in orange, includes Arroyo Hondo Canyon, Refugio Canyon and El Capitan and Refugio state beaches.
Highway 101 is closed between the Highway 1 junction in Las Cruces and the west edge of Goleta.
