One person killed, another seriously injured in Highway 87 crash

One person has died and another was seriously injured in San Jose after their vehicle overturned on Highway 87 and then was hit by at least two other vehicles.

The crash was reported to California Highway Patrol at around 10:30 p.m. Friday on the northbound stretch of Highway 87 south of Curtner Ave.

“It struck the guardrail edge and the edge of the sound wall, which caused the vehicle to overturn and come back into the lanes of northbound 87,” said Ross Lee, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson. “And then it was struck again by at least two other vehicles.”

An 18-year-old passenger who was sitting in the front of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another rear passenger was taken to the hospital with major injuries after being ejected from the vehicle. Law enforcement was not immediately able to provide the injury status of the driver or other people involved involved in the crash.

Lee said the driver was traveling in an Acura at a “high rate of speed.” He added that drugs or alcohol are not considered to be a factor in this crash.
