NFL training camps are where rosters are set. The majority of moves happen at the cut line between active players and the practice squad. But the most meaningful moves ultimately inform each team’s starting lineup.
Last preseason, the New England Patriots moved onto the Mac Jones era so thoroughly they dumped Cam Newton altogether. In Green Bay, De’Vondre Campbell beat out a handful of longer-tenured Packers before slapping together an All-Pro season. Two years ago, James Robinson emerged from a COVID-afflicted running back rotation to rush for more than 1,000 yards despite being an undrafted rookie.
This August is loaded with training camp position battles that range from intriguing to uninspired. Practice sessions will pit sloppy quarterbacks against each other and test which rookies are ready for Sundays and who needs more seasoning.
So what are the most interesting position battles of 2022?
