Weather warning: Expect a sudden change in Bay Area this week

Bay Area weather will swing from possible record high temperatures Tuesday to a cooler and windy Wednesday, the National Weather Service forecast says.

A second day of warmth unusual for February will bring highs into the mid-70s in San Jose and Concord and the low 70s in San Francisco. Records could be set; the high marks for Feb. 23 are 76 in San Jose, 75 in Concord and 73 in San Francisco.

But at 10 a.m. Wednesday, a wind advisory will take effect in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the higher elevations of the North Bay and East Bay. Peak gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected. The advisory will last until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Power outages are possible because of downed lines, the weather service said. As of Tuesday, Pacific Gas & Electric was not planning any public safety shutdowns in the Bay Area.

Temperatures are expected to fall Wednesday to the high 60s, starting a cooling trend. By Saturday, highs will be around 60 in San Jose and San Francisco.

No rain is forecast this week, however.

In the Sierra Nevada, Tuesday’s mild temperatures will give way to a chilly, breezy Wednesday. A cold front is expected Saturday, with strong winds and possibly some snow.
